Courses/International recognition

Courses offered by Delta Education, focussing on matriculation and international recognition

Since 2002 already Delta Education has prepared its matriculates to successfully complete the final matriculation examination. Delta Education offers the following four options to its learners:

  1. The National Senior Certificate Examination (NSC or Government matriculation), taken at the examination centres of the accredited Independent Afrikaans Examination Board (OAER). (Also request Delta Education's "Guide to the NSC 2010"). Delta Education offers this examination in collaboration with Umalusi (the official South African watchdog with regards to the presentation of the National Senior Certificate Examination, matriculation) and the Independent Afrikaans Examination Board.  The examination is normally done during October and November at approved AOER examination centres.

With successful completion of the abovementioned examination, the government will issue an official Umalusi-certificate.  With this certificate the learner, who attains University exemption with the correct subjects, can further his/her academic studies at any South African University or college. This certificate is also accepted internationally with certain provisos.
  2. The Delta Education matriculation certificate (not accredited by Umalusi) issued by Delta Education based on the results of the learner's preliminary examination and acquired year marks. This certificate confirms that learners have completed the Delta Education course, and passed it, but acquired an average below 65%. This certificate is only issued after the learner attained the following passing requirements:

    -  The learner has to take seven subjects of which the home language, first additional
language, Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy and Life Orientation are compulsory. Apart
from the four compulsory subjects the learner has to choose three additional elective
       subjects.
    -  The learner must attain 45% in three subjects which must include the two languages and
30% in three subjects which must include Lifeorientation.
    -  The learner must proof that he/she attained marks equal or better than the above marks as a
       year aggregate.

Learners with Delta Education were successful during the past seven years to acquire admission to Universities and good career placements with only a Delta Education-matriculation certificate. The reason for this is that a Delta Education certificate is accompanied by a portfolio of proof of the tests and assignments that the learner completed from the end of the grade 11 year. A learner's true potential and achievements are reflected in a portfolio. The report cards of grade 11 and 12 are bound with the portfolio along with a cover letter addressed to tertiary institutions and employers, stipulating the reasons why Delta Education is of the opinion that the learner should be offered an opportunity. This matriculation has opened many doors in the past, but is issued without guarantees of success.
  3. The Delta Education Certificate of Excellence. For those learners that endeavour on the challenges of life with fervour, there will be, from 2010 onward, the unique opportunity to acquire a certificate through Delta Educations that enjoys international recognition! This certificate will be issued after a candidate's choice of subjects fully complies with all university exemption guidelines in SA as well as the EU, and the candidate attained an average of 70% or more in Delta Education's final examination. This certificate is officially accredited by the Open University of the Netherlands and complies as such with the guidelines of standards set out by the European Union and UNESCO for admission to First World tertiary institutions.

Successful candidates may, from 2010 onward, study by distance learning with the South African Institute for Christian Higher Education Online (ICHON), the Open University of the Netherlands and other European tertiary institutions after completion of a bridging course and Delta Education's selection examination.  Authorities in education in Europe and respected tertiary institutions concur that the quality and standards of a learner's education with Delta Education compares well to the best of the world.
  4. The London City & Guilds qualification for practical/technical subjects. Learners with an aptitude towards technical and practical subjects have the opportunity from grade 10 onwards, to accumulate credits with courses in various technical/ practical directions like Hairdressing and Cosmetics, IT, Mechanical -, Electrical - and Civil Technology, Hospitality Studies, Tourism, Horticulture en many more. These course credits, underwritten by the London City & Guilds, are nationally and internationally recognised and offer admission to an unabated London City & Guilds final examination and resultant internationally recognised qualification in the relevant technical/ practical direction of study.
